Material examined: Holotype male (ethanol): BRAZIL: Goiás: Pirenópolis, Santuário Vagafogo, Vagafogo stream, 15.824685° S, 48.995421° W, el. 794 m a.s.l, 26.VII.2012, L.M. Camargos, A.S. Fernandes & L.L. Queiroz leg. ( MZSP). Paratypes (ethanol): same data of Holotype, but Rio das Almas, bridge over Rio das Almas, 15.8463° S, 48.921498° W, el. 796 m a.s.l, 25.VII.2012, L.M. Camargos, A.S. Fernandes & L.L. Queiroz leg., 1 male ( INPA); Niquelândia, Horto-aranha, 14.402487° S, 48.727794° W, el. 546 m a.s.l, 15–16.IX.2012, L.M. Camargos, M.C. Almeida & C.E.K. de Oliveira, 1 male ( UMSP).
Diagnosis. This species has a unique combination of characters from the male genitalia making comparisons with other species difficult. It bears resemblance with C. incipiens Blahnik, 2002 and C. septifera Blahnik, 2002 by having the inferior appendages strongly curved upwards in lateral view. However, C. machadoi lacks dentations on the apex of the inferior appendages and segment X is much more elongated than in C. incipiens , and the lateral lobe of segment X is much shorter in the new species than in C. septifera . Additionally, the new species has 6 sclerotized spines while C. incipiens has no spines in the endothecal membranes, and the phallotremal sclerite is more complex in both previously described species than in C. machadoi . The paratypes do not have the anterior setal warts completely divided, similar to those of C. odonta Blahnik, 2002 .
Description. Male, length of forewing 4.1–4.7 mm (n = 3). General color uniformly brown, in alcohol. Head relatively elongate, flattened; postocular parietal sclerite large (slightly extending below eye); anterior setal wart divided. Wing venation typical for the subgenus.
Male genitalia ( Fig.1 View FIGURE 1 ): Tergum VIII with short paired dorsal processes from posterior margin, acute apically, narrowly separated basally ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 A, E). Abdominal segment IX with anteroventral margin expanded, invaginated mesally; posteroventral process narrow, elongate, rounded apically, gradually tapering from base to apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A); anterodorsal margin deeply concave ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B); posterolateral margin sinuous ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A). Tergum X divided in mid-section into two simple elongate apically rounded mesal lobes, contiguous basally, each with apical sensilla; lateral lobes short, acute, tapering at apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B). Preanal appendages short, oval, earlike, flattened ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 A–B). Inferior appendage simple; in lateral view strongly curved upward almost in a right angle, tapering to apex; in dorsal and ventral view short, with mesal rounded expansion, strongly incurved apically ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 C–D). Phallic apparatus with tubular phallotheca, with no sclerotized apical projections; phallotremal sclerite T-shaped; endotheca with 6 sclerotized spines ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 F–G).
Female: Uknown.
Etymology. This species is described in honor of Dr. Angelo B. M. Machado, a brilliant medical doctor, entomologist and expert on Odonata, science communicator and writer of fictional books with educational and scientific approach for children. His dedicated and multidisciplinary work is an inspiration to Brazilian scientists.
Remarks: This species was found in rapidly flowing, cool water streams with some deep pools along their course. Cerrado riparian forest of semi-deciduous trees was observed along margins. The streams have primarily rocky bottom, with leaves and sand in lentic areas.
