Compsa arcufera Gounelle, 1909a: 669 View in CoL

Remarks. This species was described based on a single specimen from Chile (probably a mistake, as reported by Martins & Galileo 2009). Gounelle (1909a) described Compsa arcufera based on syntypes from Brazil (Goiás, Minas Gerais, and S„o Paulo) and Argentina (Tucumán). Monné (2023a) and Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023) reported that the Compsa arcufera has a holotype from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. However, as seen above, the species was described based on syntypes from three Brazilian states and one province in Argentina. Martins (1969) synonymized Compsa arcufera with Compsibidion fairmairei and reported the type locality of the former as “Minas Gerais, Brasil.” However, as there are syntypes and a lectotype was not designated, Minas Gerais is only one of the type localities of Compsa arcufera ( ICZN 1999: Article 73.2.3). Furthermore, according to Martins & Galileo (2009) (translated): “Of Compsa arcufera [types]—Described based on numerous specimens, of which the holotype, bearing the “Type” label, is a male and comes from Brazil, Minas Gerais, and was collected by Father Dorme, and is deposited at the MNHN. The material of this collector, as verified in other species described by Gounelle, is generally from Serra do Caraça, Catas Altas, Minas Gerais and this is probably the type locality.” However, the holotype designation can only be made in the original description, which did not occur ( ICZN 1999: 73.1; 73.2.1).

Currently, C. fairmairei is known from Chile, Bolivia, Brazil (Maranh„o, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Sergipe, Alagoas, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, S„o Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul), Paraguay, Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Buenos Aires), and Uruguay ( Bezark 2023b; Monné 2023a; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2023). However, Martins (1969) also reported this species from: “ Mato Grosso: … Campo Grande, 1 [symbol of male], 1 [symbol of female], 9.X.1961, F. M. Oliveira leg. (FFUP) … Corumbá (Serra do Urucum), 3 [symbol of male], 1 [symbol of female], XI.1960, K. Lenko col. (DZSP). Coxim, 1 [symbol of female], 1938 (CCS) … Três Lagoas (Fazenda Yamaguti, Córrego da Onça), 1 [symbol of female], X.1964, Exp. Dep. Zool. col. (DZSP).” Currently, these localities are in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Consequently, Mato Grosso do Sul needs to be added as a Brazilian state where the species occurs.
