Graucalus normani Sharpe, 1887: 438 (Kina Balu, Northern Borneo).

SYNTYPES: AMNH 561161 , adult male, collect­ ed on Mt. Kinabalu , 3000 ft, ca. 06°03′N, 116°32′E (Times Atlas), Sabah, Malaysia, on 3 March 1887, by John Whitehead (no. 1055) ; and AMNH 561160 , adult female, collected at the same locality, on 10 February 1887, by John Whitehead (no. 952). COMMENTS: Whitehead was in the habit of sending ahead to Sharpe ‘‘a pair of most birds that I thought would be new’’ ( Whitehead, 1893: 185). Sharpe based his description on these two birds, later purchased by Rothschild with most of the Whitehead collection, and Hartert (1922b: 371) listed them as syntypes.
