Distribution. New records: Tasmania (Forestier Peninsula, 30–38 m, SAM E2877). Queensland (Swain Reefs, QM G305362). The species previously was known from north-western Australia to Cockburn Sound and off southern Australia to Port Phillip Head (see Kott, 1992a). The new record from Tasmania is the most southerly for this species and that from the Swain Reefs is the first from the eastern tropical coast. The species appears to have a wide latitudinal range around the Australian continent.

Remarks. The colony has a characteristic appearance, with a short fleshy stalk and a conical to slightly irregular pink head with red zooids opening separately to the exterior, a long posterior abdomen, and a large embryo in a postero-dorsal thoracic brood pouch.
