Mixocyclops crozetensis Kiefer, 1944

Microcyclops (sic) crozetensis (in: Smith and Sayers, 1971).

Description: Kiefer (1944). Listed in: Brehm (1954); Smith and Sayers (1971). Recorded from: freshwater lakes and/or pools.

Location: Îles Crozet.

Paracyclops chiltoni (Thompson, 1882) (sensu Karaytug and Boxshall, 1998) Cyclops Chiltoni Thompson, 1882 ; Cyclops mbriatus Fisch. ( sensu Daday 1902 ); Paracyclops

mbriatus f. chiltoni (§ Gay, 1981b); Paracyclops mbriatus _Fischer, 1853_(sic: sensu stricto Gay, 1981b); Paracyclops mbriatus (Fischer, 1853) sensu Karaytug and

Boxshall (1996).

Description: Karaytug and Boxshall (1996). Listed in: Smith and Sayers (1971); § Gay (1981b, 1982); Duchêne (1989); † Dumont and Martens (1996) —as P. mbriatus.

Recorded from: fresh and brackish water.

Locations: Îles Crozet, Îles Kerguelen, [Amsterdam I. §, Easter I.(?) †, S. America, New Zealand — cosmopolitan?].

Note. There is considerable confusion regarding the identity of some Paracyclops spp. , especially P. chiltoni , P. mbriatus and P. poppei , indeed poor early descriptions have resulted in species being recorded as ‘worldwide’. P. chiltoni and P. mbriatus have been re-diagnosed and all Southern Ocean records are assigned to P. chiltoni (after Karaytug and Boxshall, 1998).
