Gloeocapsa stegophila (Itzigsohn) Rabenhorst (1863: 72) ( Fig. 8L View FIGURE 8 ).
Basonym: Monocapsa stegophila Itzigsohn in Rabenhorst (1853: no. 263a).
Colonies round to elongated, 8.57–83.5 µm wide. Without sub-colonies or with 2–4 cells, 6.25–11.8 μm wide. Sheath firm, thin, conspicuous, non-lamellated, hyaline to orange. Cells sparsely arranged, spherical or ± rounded, 2.27–4.05 (4.18) µm wide. Individual envelopes firm, 0.59–0.78 µm wide, non-lamellate or slight lamellated, smooth or slightly granulated, hyaline to orange. Cell content granulated, blue-green. Without cells in resting stage.
Habitat:— Tree bark; inside the forest associated with Gloeocapsa compacta , Chlorogloea sp.1 , Gloeocapsa sp.1 and Hassallia byssoidea .
