Shrubs, sometimes treelets; indumentum of varying types. Leaves peciolate; blade chartaceous, papiraceous and/or membranaceous; acrodromous veins basal and/or suprabasal. Inflorescences terminal; bracts and bracteoles persistent. Floral buds with acute to acuminate apex. Flowers 5(–6)-merous; inner torus glabrous or pilose; calyx persistent, tube inconspicuous, bilobed, lobes reflex, the external lobes conspicuous and larger than the internal, these generally reduced; petals white or white-vinaceous, linear or triangular, apex acute to acuminate, glabrous; stamens isomorphic, subequal in size; anthers white, white-rosy or yellow, straight or extrorsely curve, pore terminal, connective prolonged or not bellow the thecae, dorsal appendage inconspicuous or absent; ovary inferior or partly inferior; style glabrous. Baccate, bacidium type, polyspermous; seeds ovate-obtriangular.
