Red Sea main basin: Saudi Arabia (Rüppell 1836, as Trichiurus haumela ; Bogorodsky et al. 2014b), Eritrea ( Borsieri 1904, as Trichiurus haumela ), Yemen (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775, as Clupea haumela ; see Fricke 2008). General distribution: Circumglobal in tropical and warm temperate seas.
