Red Sea main basin: Egypt ( Klunzinger 1871, as Rhinobatus halavi ), Sudan ( Bamber 1915, as Rhinobatus granulatus ), Eritrea ( Kossmann & Räuber 1877, as Rhinobatus halavi ), Saudi Arabia (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775, as Raja halavi ; see Fricke 2008).
General distribution: Red Sea, northwestern Indian Ocean: Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman to Pakistan.
Remark: A single specimen was recorded in Tunisia as a Lessepsian migrant into the eastern Mediterranean ( Ben Souissi et al 2007).
