General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines and Vanuatu.

Red Sea main basin: Egypt ( Klunzinger 1870, as Platycephalus longiceps ), Eritrea (Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829b, as Platycephalus longiceps ).

General distribution: Red Sea, western Indian Ocean: Gulf of Oman and Gulf of Aden south to northern South Africa and Madagascar.

Remark: Lessepsian migrant into eastern Mediterranean (see Golani & Ben-Tuvia 1990).

General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to southern Japan, Philippines and New Guinea.

Remark: Lessepsian migrant into eastern Mediterranean (see Ben-Tuvia 1966).
