Although Amniataba percoides is widespread throughout the Kimberley, its distribution is patchy ( Fig. 27). For example, it is known from the Fitzroy and May Rivers in the southwest Kimberley, but apparently absent from rivers north of this point to the Carson and Drysdale Rivers, with the exception of downstream records in the Mitchell and Lawley Rivers. There are also no records from the King George, Berkeley or Forrest Rivers. Single records exist for the Durack and Pentecost Rivers, while the species is widespread within the Ord River. Similar disparities in the distribution are evident also within the Pilbara (Morgan & Gill 2004).
