Slender Rainbowfish

While largely restricted to the Drysdale River system in the Kimberley, Melanotaenia gracilis has also been found at one locality in the upper King George River ( Hutchins 1977) and within one tributary of the Carson River ( Morgan et al. 2006, Morgan in press) ( Fig. 20). It was particularly abundant at one site on the Carson River, with 265 individuals captured. It is unclear why it is not more widespread in the Carson River.
