Type data: This species was described based on three females and one male collected in Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. Two females from Brazil and Venezuela were found at ZMB , being the Brazilian specimen here designated the lectotype. Type locality: Brazil .

Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Brazil. This species is similar to C. bicolor Lepeletier, 1841 , differing for it by its larger size and by the pubescence of the lateral surface of the mesepisternum and pronotal lobe (black in C. lutea ; yellow in C. bicolor ).
