Type Locality: Germany, Hessen, Hanau.

Vernacular Names: Bechstein's Myotis.

Synonyms: Myotis favonicus Thomas 1906 ; Myotis ghidinii Fatio 1902 .

Distribution: Europe to Caucasus and Iran; Bulgaria; England; S Sweden.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Vulnerable.

Discussion: For discussion of correct spelling ( bechsteinii , not bechsteini) see Bogdanowicz and Kock (1998). Apparently closely related to daubentonii ; see Ruedi and Mayer (2001). Reviewed by Horácek et al. (2000) and Baagøe (2001 a).
