status

Armatobalanus (Armatobalanus) quadrivittatus ( Darwin, 1854:284)

Distribution

Indo-West Pacific: Indian Ocean; Mergui Archipelago; Maldives; Indonesia; Western and Northern Australia; Java Sea; Timor; Banda Sea; Singapore; Malay Archipelago; Vietnam; The Philippines; southwestern Japan.

Comments

Darwin (1854) originally described Armatobalanus quadrivittatus attached to hard corals and other cirripedes ( Tetraclita and Striatobalanus ). This species is now also known to occur facultatively on alcyonarians and sponges as well as on various other hard substrata including oyster shells and decapods ( Pilsbry 1916; Utinomi 1962; Jones and Hewitt 1996; Jones 2004). Not hitherto recorded from submarine caves.
