Laubieriopsis cabiochi: Petersen 2000: 503–512 View in CoL , Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A–K, N–P, Tables 2, 3 (n. comb., redescr.).

TL: Northeastern Atlantic; not further specified, specimens originally regarded as syntypes. D: Only known from the original stations.

Type material ( lectotype selected by M.E. Petersen): NE Atlantic, Continental slope S off Ireland: Lectotype (MNHN AS 417a), and 4 paralectotypes ( MNHN AS 417b), R/ V Thalassa, Cruise 1973, Sta. Z 457 (48°38’02” N, 09°52’06’ ‘W), 800 m, soft mud, compact lumps (not found in MNHN, probably lost) . One syntype ( MNHN 736 About MNHN ), and four syntypes ( MNHN 737 About MNHN ), no further data (body 5.5–7.3 mm long, 0.4–0.7 mm wide, 21 chaetigers; ovaries along 7–12 chaetigers, from chaetigers 3–7, size dependent) . Other syntypes ( MNHN 738 About MNHN ) (lumped from different stations; field data unavailable; two small specimens with anterior end and pharynx exposed; a few specimens in better condition 2.3–9.0 mm long, 0.2–0.7 mm wide, 19–22 chaetigers; two females had single ovaries along chaetigers 6(7)–17(18), one male with testes running along chaetigers 7–17.)

Additional material. Northwestern Atlantic Ocean. 24 specimens ( LACM 7492 About LACM ), R/ V Atlantis, Sta. A 118 (32°19.4’ N, 64°34.9’ W to 32°19.0’ N, 64°34.8’ W), 1135–1153 m, 18 Aug. 1966, H. Sanders, coll. (11 complete, 3 for SEM; body 4.3–8.2 mm long, 0.3–0.4 mm wide, 21 chaetigers; GP not seen, oocytes in three specimens, in chaetigers 7–13; 7 out of 11 complete specimens with bidentate aciculars in anterior 3–4 chaetigers; others with tips entire) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. Laubieriopsis with 21 chaetigers. Integument sparsely, finely papillose anteriorly ( Fig. 29A, B View FIGURE 29 ), and posteriorly ( Fig. 29H View FIGURE 29 ), medially smooth ( Fig. 29E View FIGURE 29 ). Pharynx barrel-shaped ( Fig. 29C View FIGURE 29 ). First five chaetigers with only 3–4 aciculars, with tips mostly bidentate ( Fig. 29D View FIGURE 29 ), per bundle, each spinulose with smooth tip. Median and posterior parapodia with one acicular and one capillary per bundle. Interramal papillae sessile, globose. Genital papillae on posterior margin of chaetiger 8, fusiform, with a large central depression ( Fig. 29F, G View FIGURE 29 ). Pygidium bilobed, with two larger and two smaller anal papillae ( Fig. 29H, I View FIGURE 29 ).

Remarks. Laubieriopsis cabiochi is, as indicated in the key above, unique in the genus by having 20–21 chaetigers. The anterior aciculars are bidentate, and genital papillae are unpaired, in chaetiger 8. Laubieriopsis norvegica is similar in having 21 chaetigers and bidentate aciculars along anterior chaetigers, but they differ in the type of genital papillae (GP). In L. cabiochi GP are unpaired, as already indicated, whereas they are duplicated in L. nor- vegica.

Body ends were reversed in the original description. This was corrected and the species was redescribed by Petersen (2000). Magalhães et al. (2014:148) recorded a similar species from Hawaii as L. cf. cabiochi and pointed out their specimens might belong to a different species. We agree. There are several differences, besides the fact that Hawaiian specimens are apparently juveniles: their chaetae are shorter, including those present in last chaetiger, and the annulations present in last chaetigers are fewer in number and shallower than those present in L. cabiochi .
