Prothyma concinna cursor ( Guérin-Méneville, 1849) View in CoL

Geographic distribution: Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea.

Distribution in Guinea –Bissau: 8, 11B, 14, 20, 21, 28, 32, 36, 45.

Specimens sampled: Coli (Quebo), 6.VII.2006, 1 ɗ, 12.VII.2006, 1 ɗ, 1 Ψ, 16.VII.2006, 3 ɗ, “DO”, ( AS); Cufada, 8.VII.2006, 6ɗ, 4 Ψ, 17.VII.2006, 13 ɗ, 9 Ψ, “DO”, ( AS); Guilege-Dolo, 11.VII.2006, 3 Ψ, “DO”, ( AS).

Remarks: A polytipic species with a wide distribution in the northern-central territories of Africa from western (e.g. Senegal, Guinea-Bissau) to eastern countries (e.g. Ethiopia). The ssp. cursor seems restricted to the Guinea-Senegal region ( Werner 1993, 2000a; Cassola 1998). In Guinea-Bissau the adults appear during the rainy season and can be found until the beginning of the dry season. During the rainy season, the adults when disturbed are easily observed running quickly to the edges of the footways across the forests, or even across the savannah. This fact corroborate the comments of Guérin-Méneville (1849) about the behaviour of these beetles: “Ces Cicindèles, qui ne volent pas, courent entre les herbes et cherchent à se cacher sous les touffes quand ou les poursuit”. Sometimes they are also attracted to light traps (Serrano 1995), and in the forest habitats they may be syntopic with Euryarthron festivum (Dejean) and Ropaloteres cinctus (Olivier) .
