Labus de Saussure 1867: 3 View in CoL , genus (2 species). Type species: Labus spiniger de Saussure, 1867 View in CoL , by subsequent designation ( Bingham 1897: 348).

Diagnosis. Closely related to genus Cyrtolabulus van der Vecht. Mandibles short, stout and wider apically, tip of mandibles cross each other. Clypeus wider than long, generally emarginate apically. Female with distinct subcircular fovea on frons in front of median ocellus ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Cephalic foveae absent. Vertex not sloping behind ocelli. Mesosoma more or less flattened dorso-ventrally, distinctly longer than high. Anterior face of pronotum without medial pits or foveae. Pronotal carina usually not complete. Pronotum produced at humeri. Pretegula carina present, weakly developed. Epicnemial carina absent. Notauli absent. Tegula as long as wide, posterior margin reaches end of parategula ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Metanotum dentiform ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 48 – 54. 48 ). Axillary fossa wide. Propodeal dorsum below plane of metanotum. Superior carina absent. Propodeal orifice wide dorsally. Submarginal carina produced as pointed process above valvula, propodeal valvula free from submarginal carina posteriorly ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 37 – 47 ). Metasoma petiolate, T1 punctate, swollen in apical half ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 64 – 73 ). T2 and S2 apically lamellate. S1 abruptly widening near apex, forming a posterior crescentic sclerite, lateral margins of T1 closely approaching each other ventrally, usually fused. Mid tibia with one apical spur. SMC2 basally truncate ( Fig. 55 View FIGURES 55 – 63 ). Prestigma shorter than pterostigma. ♂: F11 hook like, rounded apically; F10 shorter than previous ones; apical flagellomeres without cavity on inner margin but sometime a shallow groove present on it. Body length usually 10–12 mm.
