Holotype (male): Papua New Guinea, Madang Prov.: New Guinea, NE., Adelberg Mts. [= Adelbert Range], Wanuma [4° 35' S, 145° 10' E], 800–1000 m, 27.X.1958, J.L. Gressitt, depository: Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA ( BPBM). GoogleMaps

Paratypes: 1 male, 1 female, same data as holotype ( BPBM) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. The new species is similar to P. pallidifrons , partly living in the same area. It differs by the short lobes of the female subgenital plate ( Fig. 448) and by different shapes of the male cerci and titillators (see key). With regard to the fastigium verticis with rounded dorsal margin ( Fig. 38) and the male characters, it is close to P. apingan . It differs by the dorsal lamella of the apico-internal tooth of the male cercus being angular instead of rounded, the baso-internal process of the cerci being longer and compressed, and by the apical parts of the titillators being short with little deviating margins instead of being triangular. The female comes close to P. lehm . It differs by the subgenital plate being deep and suddenly furrowed at very base with the hind margin of the furrow straight ( Fig. 448). Differences to other species are outlined in the key.

Description. Fastigium verticis with dorsal margin curved ventrad ( Fig. 38); Fastigium verticis in front of eyes 1.5–1.6 mm, from base 2.0 mm; dorsal eye length 1.8 mm; greatest diameter of eye 1.8–2.0 mm; index fastigium verticis from base: eye length 1.1. Face rugose but shining. Tegmen surpassing hind knees; gradually narrowing from basal widening to apex; apex rounded. Femora with the following number of spines on ventral margins: fore femur 7–8 external, 6 internal; mid femur 6 external, 2–3 internal near base; hind femur 9–11 external, 4–6 internal near base.

Male. Stridulatory file 2.8–2.9 mm long; with 101–106 teeth or 36.6–37.2 teeth per mm, in middle of file with 25.8–27.6 teeth per mm ( Fig. 55). Mirror narrowing posteriorly; fore margin straight, hind margin oblique; 1.8–1.9 mm long 1.7 mm wide; index length:width 1.0–1.1. Tenth abdominal tergite roundly and shallowly excised in middle, little projecting on both sides ( Fig. 105). Epiproct triangular, deeply furrowed; apex rounded ( Fig. 105). Paraproct with a short obtuse projection. Cerci slightly curved; with flattened subbaso-internal and long apico-internal projection; the latter compressed in basal two thirds, spinose in apical third ( Figs. 138, 174, 234). Subgenital plate with shallow rounded excision at apex; styli normal ( Fig. 265).

Titillators separate; basal parts rather broad, little twisted; towards centre rather broad, simple; apical parts little widening towards apex, little wider than central area; surface of apical parts densely covered with clinging hairs; apico-lateral margin undulate, coarsely granulated; baso-lateral sclerite forming a threebranched star; apico-lateral sclerites oval, hyaline, hardly sclerotised ( Figs. 330, 337, 374, 415).

Female. Tenth abdominal tergite furrowed in midline. Epiproct rounded; shallowly grooved. Subgenital plate subdivided in middle into two short triangular lobes; both lobes with a transverse furrow at base ( Figs. 448, 490).

Coloration. Brown. Face with black transverse bands between eyes including scapus, and along clypeofrontal suture. Mandibles with black apices. Disc of pronotum with a light spot behind fore margin. Tegmen with pattern of light veins and dark cells distinct. Central area of paranota and legs with remnants of green in type, yellow in other specimens.

Measurements (2 males, 1 female): body male 31–41, female 34; pronotum male 8.8–9.8, female 8.2; tegmen male 28.5–29, female 31; hind femur male 19–20.5, female 20.5; ovipositor female 20 mm.

Etymology. The name refers to the shorter apical tooth of the male cerci and the short lobes of the female subgenital plate as compared to P. pallidifrons .
