Synandrium 2.6–3.2 cm long, exserted up to 1.5 cm; filament tube 2.2–2.5 cm long; anther tube 4–7 mm long, glabrous, ventral anthers ebarbate. Berries narrowly cylindric, 10–20 × 3–5 mm.

Phenology: — Burmeistera marginata sets flowers and fruits in January, March, May, July, August, November and December.

Distribution, ecology and conservation status: — Burmeistera marginata is restricted to Colombia. Its disjunct distribution includes the type locality in Quindío, and additional localities from sub-Andean forests of the department of Nariño, at elevations between 873 and 1850 m. Following the IUCN´s (2022) criteria [B1(EOO) and B2(AOO), conditions (a) and (b), and C2(a)(i)], this species qualifies as Critically Endangered.

Notes: — Burmeistera marginata is similar to B. cylindrocarpa (see distinctive traits under the latter).

Burmeistera marginata was described based on a colection by J. J. Triana (“Crescit in vicinitate pagi Consota in monte Quindiu”). There are two sheets that correspond to the original description, and collected in the cited locality, one with Triana´s number 1585 (deposited at P), and a second one with the number 3069.1/8. Thus, the sheet deposited at P [ P00408889 ] is here chosen as the lectotype (pro parte), because it is the most complete, and has more handwritten information on the label. However, it is likely that the loose leaf on the lower portion of the sheet does not correspond to B. marginata .
