Panorpa subfurcata Westwood 1841: 191 , in part. As described by Byers (1962a), confusion over subfurcata led to separation of specimens into three species; subfurcata , signifer (now recognized as junior synonym to subfurcata ) and galerita . Misidentifications of galerita were published as subfurcata by Hine 1901: 244 (description), fig 25 (forewing), fig 30 (lateral view of ♂ terminalia); Esben-Petersen 1921: 66 (description), fig 70 (♂ genital bulb); and Carpenter 1931: 228 (description), fig. 9 (♂ genital bulb), fig 55 (♀ genital plate), fig 80 (forewing).
