Panorpa mexicana Banks 1913: 234 View in CoL (described ♂); Esben-Petersen 1915: 226 (listed as an “American” species); Esben-Petersen 1921: 73 (cited Banks 1913); Byers 1954: 498 (wing markings); Byers 1958: 220 (one ♀ tentatively assigned to this species, new record from Puebla, MX); Byers 1962b: 304 (relaxed and re-described the holotype, related to azteca View in CoL , terminata View in CoL and immaculata View in CoL ), fig 8 (♂ holotype genital bulb), fig 9 (♂ ninth abdominal tergum); Byers 1996: 522 ( mexicana View in CoL likely belongs to the involuta View in CoL group); Byers 2011: 2, fig 7 (♂ genital bulb).
Holotype ♂: MCZC [ MCZ-ENT00011883 ]. MX. Veracruz, Orizaba , Crawford. Abdomen missing.
Distribution: México; Puebla, Veracruz.
