Panorpa interrupta Banks 1918: 18 (description, comparison with rufescens View in CoL , venosa View in CoL , virginica View in CoL ); Carpenter 1931: 244 description, comparison with canadensis and carolinensis View in CoL , and designation ♀ allotype), fig 27 (genital bulb of ♂), fig 53 (genital plate ♀ allotype); Byers 1973: 374 (new record from NJ).

Syntypes (3♂): MCZC [ MCZ-ENT00010068 ]. USA. NC, Raleigh , late September 1915, F. Sherman . Allotype ♀: MCZC [ MCZ-ENT00010068 ]. USA. NC, Raleigh, NC, 25.v.1922, C. S. Brimley .

Paratypes: NCSU (6♀). These are labelled as paratypes, but none are mentioned in the literature .

Panorpa banksiana Penny and Byers 1979: 376 View in CoL (new name for interrupta Banks 1918 assigned due to homonymy with interrupta Navás 1913 ); Byers 1993: 73 fig 30 (genital bulb of ♂ syntype).
