Taxonomic note: This is considered a subspecies of Strangalia famelica in many publications (e.g., Chemsak 2005; Lingafelter 2007), but Yanega (1996) and Bousquet et al. (2017) recognized them to be separate species. All Kentucky specimens that we examined are S. solitaria .

Distribution: OH to MS to eastern TX to eastern ND. Kentucky records are nearly statewide, but most are from the eastern third of the state (Map 185).

Collection methods: Viburnum flowers (6)

Larval host plants: Betula and Quercus ( Chemsak 2005)

Adult flower hosts: Callicarpa , Cornus , Hydrangea, Pastinaca , Rhus , Rosa , Smilacina , and Spiraea ( Chemsak 2005)

Comments: A diurnal species most often collected from flowers. Also attracted to fermenting sugar.
