Typocerus deceptus Knull, 1929 ; Lepturini [new state record]

Distribution: MA to northern GA to AR to MN. Kentucky specimens are from the eastern half of the state (Map 198).

Adult flower hosts: Hydrangea arborescens and Rhus glabra ( Monné & Nearns 2022b)

Comments: Adults are diurnal and found on flowers. This species requires careful examination to distinguish in the field from the much more common T. velutinus . Because Typocerus are often quick to fly, perhaps the best approach is to collect series of T. velutinus from which a few may turn out to be T. deceptus upon microscopic examination.
