Taxonomic note: This species had been considered a subspecies of A. rusticus until Bousquet et al. (2017) formally elevated it to species.

Distribution: NS to central GA to eastern OK to southern MN. Kentucky records are scattered across the state, with most from the Western Allegheny Plateau (Map 011).

Collection methods: Light (1); panel trap baited with α-pinene (6)

Larval host plants: Pinus ( Bousquet et al. 2017)

Chemical lures: Turpentine alone, or in synergy with Trans -verbenol and ethanol ( Fatzinger et al. 1987)— catches can be more than doubled by adding the alcohols.

Comments: Occasionally attracted to lights (see Androw & Keeney 1999). Adults can be found near the bases of dead pines where the larvae mine in their roots ( Craighead 1923).
