Distribution: NS to WV to KY to southern ON. Kentucky specimens are from the eastern third of the state (both Appalachian ecoregions; Map 209) where large stands of hemlocks occur.

Collection methods: Malaise trap (2); panel trap baited with α-pinene (1)

Larval host plants: Abies balsamea , Chamaecyparis thyoides and Tsuga canadensis ( Monné & Nearns 2022c)

Chemical lures: A blend of ipsenol + ipsdienol + ethanol + α-pinene ( Miller et al. 2015)

Comments: Adults can be collected from the trunks of recently dead or dying hosts, especially hemlocks ( Tsuga ; Bousquet et al. 2017). Adults oviposit shortly to long after its host falls ( Craighead 1923).
