TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, Sulawesi Selatan .

DISTRIBUTION: S Sulawesi, south of Tempe Depression ( Indonesia).

STATUS: CITES - Appendix II; IUCN - Vulnerable.

SYNONYMS: brachyurus , hypomelas, inornatus , majuscula.

COMMENTS: Type species of Gymnopyga ; see Fooden (1969:79). Included in nigra by Corbet and Hill (1980:87).
