Generitype of Cleome Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 172. 1929).

Current name: Cleome ornithopodioides L. ( Capparaceae ).

Note: Cleome ornithopodioides , with the type designated by Meikle (believed then to have been first typified by Carlström in Willdenowia 14: 121. 1984), was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 560. 1992). However, the proposal was eventually ruled unnecessary by the General Committee (see Barrie, l.c. 55: 795-796. 2006 for a review of the history of this and related proposals).
