Ptilocercidae Lyon 1913

Ptilocercidae Lyon 1913 , Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus., 45: 4.

Genera: 1 genus with 1 species:

Genus Ptilocercus Gray 1848 (1 species with 2 subspecies)

Discussion: Given full familial rank here and by Shoshani and McKenna (1998), but not by McKenna and Bell (1997). Ptilocercus exhibits many plesiomorphic and autapomorphic external, craniodental, and postcranial traits unique among treeshrews (including a terminally distichous tail); see Lyon (1913:4), Le Gros Clark (1926) and Sargis (2001, 2002 a, b).
