Type species: Prorhinotermes inopinatus Silvestri, 1909
There are about 10 species of the genus in the Indomalayan region. One species, Prorhinotermes tibiaoensiformis , was described from North Thailand by Ahmad (1965). However, Gathorne-Hardy (2004) made this species a junior synonym of Prorhinotermes flavus .
Diagnosis
Monomorphic soldiers. Head oval. Fontanelle small and circular. Eyes present but pale. Labrum tongue-shaped. Mandible sabre-shaped, without teeth. Postmentum club-shaped. Pronotum flat.
