Diagnosis. Adult ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 4 – 11 ) with wingspan 16.5–21.5 mm. Scythropiodes hamatellus is similar to S. jiulianae in appearance by having a similar body color and the same markings on the forewing. Scythropiodes hamatellus can be distinguished in the male genitalia by the subquadrate valva with a long hooked apical process and the absence of the cornutus ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 24 ); in the female genitalia by the corpus bursae without an appendix bursae and the signa consisting of two elliptical plates with minute denticles ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 34 – 37 ). In S. jiulianae , the triangular valva bears no apical process and the phallus has two cornuti in the male genitalia ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 19 – 24 ); and the corpus bursae has an appendix bursae and the signa consist of two gear-like plates with 9–10 radiated arms in the female genitalia ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 34 – 37 ).
