Diagnosis. The species is robust and presents an evident sexual dimorphism, with males predominantly black and females more yellowish. The scape possesses a prominent tip on the lateral apical margin, abdomen smaller than thorax, abdominal tergite II yellow on basal ¼, with three central spots, and tergite III with central concave yellow spot, more prominent on females.
Description male: body length: 6.20–7.10 mm; wing length: 6.40–6.90 mm; head width: 2.30–2.80 mm.
Head ( Fig. 2A–C View FIGURE 2 ): holoptic eyes, closed by distance of ocellar tubercle; frons dark brown pollinose with yellow pollinose spot at center and 2 tufts of long yellow bristles toward antennae; oral margin narrow in frontal view; face absent, clypeus reaching antennae; parafacial dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long yellow bristles, distance from compound eye to oral margin 2.0 times length of scape; scape dark brown pollinose, short, 1.5 times length of pedicel, prominent tip on dorsal surface ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), with very long yellow hairs on dorsal surface and long yellow hairs on ventral surface; pedicel dark brown, cylindrical, with very long yellow hairs on dorsal surface and long yellow bristles on ventral surface; flagellum dark brown with white micropubescence on inner surface, with short yellow hairs on dorsal surface, 3.0 times length of scape and pedicel together, laterally compressed in dorsal view, with short and slender dorsal prong and short, slightly wider ventral prong, hookshaped; ventral prong slightly longer than dorsal ones; delicate stylus located in apical sulcus; large ommatidium on upper half and smaller ommatidium on lower half of compound eye; proboscis short, 2.0 times longer than head; palpus dark brown pollinose, one segmented, thin, short, not surpassing antennae, 1/3 length of head, with very short sparse dark brown hairs; gena and postgena dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; occiput dark brown gray dense pollinose, with short yellow bristles around compound eye and long yellow bristles around occipital foramen; ocellar tubercle dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long, proclinate yellow bristles.
Thorax: dorsal view ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ): pronotum dark brown pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; mesonotum (presutural scutum) dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; admedian vittae dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; mesonotum (postsutural scutum) dark brown gray pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; postalar callus dark brown pollinose, with long yellow bristles on anterior surface; scutellum dark brown gray pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; lateral view ( Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ): antepronotum dark brown gray dense polinose, with very long yellow bristles; postpronotal lobe dark brown gray pollinose and yellow tip, with very long yellow bristles; notopleuron and supra-alar area dark brown gray dense pollinose, with very long yellow bristles; proepisternum dark brown gray pollinose, with long yellow bristles; proepimeron dark brown pollinose; anepisternum dark brown gray pollinose, with very long, yellow bristles on upper surface and 2/3 posterior of lower surface; katepisternum dark brown gray pollinose, with long yellow bristles on center; anepimeron dark brown gray dense pollinose on anterior surface, with very long yellow bristles and dark brown gray pollinose on posterior surface; meron dark brown pollinose; katatergite dark brown pollinose; metepisternum dark brown gray dense pollinose, with tuft of yellow bristles on posterior half of upper surface; metepimeron dark brown gray pollinose; stalk of halter light brown; knob yellow on dorsal and ventral surface, with very short yellow hairs on posterior surface.
Legs: coxa I dark brown gray dense pollinose on anterior surface and dark brown pollinose on posterior surface, with very long yellow bristles on anterior surface, longer than coxae II and III; coxa II dark brown gray pollinose, with very long yellow bristles on anterior surface and basally on posterior surface; coxa III dark brown gray pollinose, with very long yellow bristles on anterior and dorsal surface; trochanter dark brown pollinose, with very short yellow bristles on posterior surface; femora I and III dark brown pollinose, with short yellow bristles on anterior, anterodorsal, anteroventral, ventral, posterodorsal, posteroventral and posterior surface and long yellow bristles on dorsal surface; femur II dark brown pollinose with short yellow bristles on anterior, anterodorsal and anteroventral surface and long yellow bristles on dorsal, posterodorsal, ventral, posteroventral and ventral surface; tibiae I–III dark brown pollinose, with short yellow bristles; all tibiae with spurs around base; tarsomeres dark brown pollinose, with short yellow bristles on anterior, anterodorsal, anteroventral, dorsal, ventral, posterodorsal and posteroventral surface and very short, strong yellow bristles on posterior surface; tarsomere I longer than others, twice length of tarsomere II; pulvillus smaller than claws.
Wing ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ): hyaline; basal costal yellow, with tuft of long yellow bristles; Costal dark brown with short, dense, delicate dark brown bristles surrounding wing; Sc yellow; sc yellowish; R2+3 gently curved to apex, more parallel to R1; R4 parallel to R5, branch beginning in ends of discal cell; cell bm 2.5 times longer than cell br; CuA2 and A1 touching near wing margin, cell cup closed, 1/3 length of r-m; r-m placed beyond ½ discal cell; anal lobe large; calyptra with short and delicate white shiny bristles on margin; wing 2.5 times longer than large.
Abdomen ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ): short, smaller than thorax; abdominal tergite I dark brown pollinose and yellow margin, smaller than others, ½ length of abdominal tergite II, with long yellowish bristles on ½ anterior and very long yellowish bristles on ½ posterior; abdominal tergite II dark brown pollinose with yellow basal margin forming 3 spots on center, longer, twice length of others on abdominal tergites, with very long, dense yellow bristles on center and lateral margin; abdominal tergites III dark brown pollinose with yellow posterior margin forming concavity on center, with very long, dense yellow bristles on center and lateral margin; abdominal tergites VI–VIII dark brown pollinose and yellow posterior margin, with very long, dense yellow bristles on center and lateral margin; abdominal sternites I–VIII dark brown pollinose and yellow posterior margin, with long yellow bristles.
Male terminalia: Rotated 180º ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ); dorsal view ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ): lateral aedeagal apodeme and lateral ejaculatory apodeme slender and short, not surpassing gonocoxite apodeme margins; lower lobes of epiphallus short, with sclerotized apex; distiphallus long, surpassing apex of posterior process of gonocoxite; anterior arm of aedeagal sheath long, surpassing gonocoxal limits, with 2/3 length of ejaculatory apodeme; ejaculatory apodeme long, bulging on center, surpassing gonocoxite apodeme limits; lateral lobes of epiphallus very long, wide and curved apically, with long macrosetae on dorsal surface ( Figs 3A View FIGURE 3 , 4B View FIGURE 4 ); lateral view ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ): gonocoxite elongated; medial process of gonocoxite slender, with spines on ventral surface; distiphallus S-shaped, with truncate apex ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ); penial guide of distiphallus with dense macrosetae on dorsal surface ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ); gonostylus long, slender, pointed, with long, dense dorsal and ventral spines; ejaculatory apodeme round, curved downward; ventral view ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ): gonocoxite bilobed; anterior margin of gonocoxite very deep emarginated medially; posterior margin of gonocoxite slightly emarginated medially; posterior process of gonocoxite very long, with short apical spines; medial process of gonocoxite long and robust, with apical and ventral spines. Epandrium: square-shaped, with short, slender lateral arms, anterior margin very concave, posterior margin with shallow excavation ( Fig. 5A–B View FIGURE 5 ).
Preservation: Pinned.
Description female: Similar to the male, except for: body length: 4.90–5.10 mm; wing length: 6.90–7.20 mm; head width: 1.80–2.10 mm.
Head ( Fig. 6A–C View FIGURE 6 ): dichoptic eyes, separated by 3.0 times distance of ocellar tubercle; frons yellow pollinose, with medial dark brown spot from ocellar tubercle until vittae and 2 spots toward antennae, with 2 rows of long yellow bristles around compound eye and 2 tufts in each spot toward antennae; parafacial yellow pollinose, with long yellow bristles; scape with short yellow hairs on dorsal, ventral and outer surfaces; pedicel with short yellow hairs on dorsal and ventral surface; gena yellow pollinose, with long yellow bristles; postgena dark brown pollinose with long yellow bristles; occiput with large yellow stripe around compound eye and dark brown pollinose around occipital foramen; ocellar tubercle dark brown gray dense pollinose, with short, proclinate yellow bristles.

Legs: coxa I light brown pollinose, with long yellow bristles on anterior surface; coxa II light brown pollinose on anterior surface and yellow on dorsal surface; coxa III light brown pollinose; femora I–III light brown pollinose; tibiae I–III light brown pollinose.
Wing ( Fig. 6D View FIGURE 6 ): basal costal yellow, with tuft of short yellow bristles.
Abdomen ( Fig. 6E View FIGURE 6 ): abdominal tergite I dark brown pollinose on 1/3 of anterior surface and yellow on 2/3 of posterior surface, with short yellow bristles on anterior half and long yellow bristles on posterior half; abdominal tergites II dark brown pollinose on 2/3 of anterior surface and yellow pollinose on 1/3 of posterior surface, forming three spots medially; abdominal tergite III dark brown pollinose on 2/3 of anterior surface and yellow pollinose on 1/3 of posterior surface, with wide concavity medially to posterior margin; abdominal tergites II–III with short yellow bristles on center and long yellow bristles on lateral margin; abdominal tergites IV–VI dark brown pollinose on 1/3 of anterior surface and yellow pollinose on 2/3 of posterior surface, with long yellow bristles on center and on lateral margin; abdominal tergites VII–VIII yellow pollinose, with long yellow bristles medially and on lateral margin; sternite VIII dark brown polinose with short yellow bristles.
Female terminalia ( Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7 ): Spermathecal bulb complex, apical portion long, ellipsoid-conical shaped, 4.0 times longer than wide ( Fig. 7B View FIGURE 7 ); basal sac large on spermathecal bulb, globose and membranous; apical duct thin, with membrane surrounding duct, becoming wide at base, ½ length of basal duct; basal duct thin at apex becoming wide basally; common duct short and wide, 2.0 times width of apical ducts; sperm pump placed at midpoint spermathecal duct; sperm pump short, ½ length of apical ducts; basal and apical sclerotized collar present; furca Vshaped ( Fig. 7C View FIGURE 7 ), with large and curved parallel bars, with delicate membrane joining the bars.
Etymology. The specific epithet, andinus , is based on the currently known distribution of the species (i.e. Andean region).
Geographical distribution. Bolivia (Cochabamba) and Argentina (Salta).
Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂: BOLIVIA: Cochabamba, male (788/93), 1946, Zischka col. ( MNHN) PARATYPES: same labels as Holotype, Duret Collection (5 ♀ and 1 ♂, MNHN), (1 ♀ and 1 ♂, MZSP) .
