Shanshanosaurus huoyanshanensis
is known only from a partial skeleton from the uppermost Cretaceous of Xinjiang, China ( Dong 1977). The skeleton represents a small, juvenile individual. Unfortunately, the original description is rather short, and nothing has subsequently been published on this interesting specimen. However, Shanshanosaurus shows similarities to tyrannosaurids ( Molnar 1990; Dong 1992), and probably represents a juvenile of a member of this clade (Currie, pers. comm. 1998; Holtz 2001a); thus the taxon is included in the family here.
