Cladiopsocus pacificus n. sp.

( Figs 27–38 View FIGURES 27 – 33 View FIGURES 34 – 38 )

Diagnosis. Differing from females of C. fuscus (New) , C. garciai Eertmoed and C. multimaculatus Eertmoed , by having the subgenital plate distally rounded ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ). Differing from males of C. multimaculatus Eertmoed , in having the phallosome anteriorly straight, not concave ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ), in having the mesal tubercle of the male paraproct well developed ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ), in having only one spot in the areola postica at wing margin ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ), and having only one spot in the hindwing margin, between M and CuA ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ), and in having in the females V3 shorter and not bilobed than in the former ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ). Differing from C. prionotus (New) in the length and shape of the paraproctal prong.

Description. Male. Color. Head brown, vertex pale brown, with a dark brown band from ocellar group, on each side of the epicraneal sulcus; postclypeus with V-shaped brown bands with outward curved ends. Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline. Hypandrium, phallosome and paraproctal prongs dark brown. Forewing membrane ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ) slightly smoked, with brown spots at vein ends; pterostigma with central brown band. Hindwing membrane ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ) smoked, with brown spots at vein ends. Thorax brown, legs light brown, abdomen light brown with brown subcuticular dorsal bands.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: phallosome membranous ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ), posteriorly cleft, external parameres small side lobes. Male epiproct ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ) with semicircular sclerotization near posterior border and with a small median process flanked by two setae. Male paraprocts ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ) with mesal lobe small, with field of long setae; mesal prong strongly sclerotized, curved, blunt ended. Hypandrium ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 27 – 33 ) triangular, setose; pigmented area with lateral hyaline fenestrae as illustrated. Paraprocts with 16 trichobothria on basal rosettes.

Measurements: FW: 2200, F: 520, T: 890, t1: 340, t2: 40, t3: 60, ctt1: 23, f1: 300, Mx4: 90, IO: 140, D: 180, d: 270, IO/d: 0.52, PO: 1.5.

Female. Color. Same as the male.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: gonapophyses ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ): V1 long, slender, distally acuminate; V2 +3 with proximal heel, distal process slender, acuminate, with field of microspines; V3 a broad lobe on V2, bearing long setae ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ). Subgenital plate ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ) subtriangular, distally sclerotized, with posterior border rounded. Paraprocts triangular ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ), outer edge with field of long setae; sensory fields with 17 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ), elongate, rounded posteriorly, with setae as illustrated.
