5.4.3. Myrcia verrucosa Sobral (2007: 77) View in CoL . Type:— BRAZIL. Espírito Santo, Santa Teresa, Nova Lombardia, Reserva Biológica Augusto Ruschi, divisa com propriedade de Vanildo Bragacha, 23 January 2003, Vervloet 1749 (holotype MBML [image!]; isotype BHCB [image!]).
The protologue of Myrcia verrucosa compares this species with M. tijucensis without providing other information to suggest that it should be placed in M. sect. Gomidesia . The type has a pilose staminal ring and the hypanthium is slightly prolonged, features common in the section. However, the anthers are described as opening longitudinally, an uncommon arrangement in the section. We preliminarily place Myrcia verrucosa in M. sect. Gomidesia until additional material becomes available to include the species in phylogenetic analysis.
