Generic diagnosis for larvae following Welbourn & Young (1987).
For adults and deutonymphs (DN):
Crista metopica surrounded by a prodorsal sclerite between the prodorsal trichobothria in the six species described but not in La. jessicae sp. nov.; anterior sensillary area with 5–10 long setae (3–4 in DN) and a pair of trichobothria; between the anterior and posterior trichobothria are 2 pairs of long truncate setae (L1 and L2, Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 and 7 View FIGURE 7 ), 1–4 pairs of intermediate-length setae near the posterior pair of trichobothria; 1 pair of eyes on each side of the crista metopica, each pair set on an ocular sclerite with a pair of setae; dorsal idiosomal setae of two distinct types, scattered long and truncate and the more numerous short and acute setae, Gnathosoma: Palpal genu with a single long seta along dorsal surface ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ); palpal tibia with 3–4 ventral conelike spines (2 in DN), spines sometimes with small serrations. Legs: femora on all legs divided (basifemur and telofemur). Microseta (κ) present on distal end of genu legs I, II, and tibia leg I. Modified from Welbourn & Young (1987).
