Material examined. 1♁ (PARATYPE) PANAMA, Panama, Cerro Azul , 2.vii.1970, (ca. 700m asl), E.S. Known distribution. Panama and Northwestern Colombia.

Diagnosis and remarks. This species is assessed as Data Deficient in the IUCN Red List, as it occurs at a limited number of localities and has been collected only once recently ( González-Soriano & Guzmán Ojeda 2021b). In cercus morphology, H. valgum is close to H. chrysops , H. eboratum , H. calendulum and H. alienum , with which it shares the MP ridge bearing only small teeth and not partially covering ML. This species can be separated from these and the remainder of Group B species by the following character combination: ridge above ML consisting of a patch of small denticles, not in a single row ( Figs. 67d–e View FIGURE 67 ); ML apex acute ( Figs. 67d–e View FIGURE 67 ).
