Taxonomic notes:— This species is a small and rather fragile plant which differs from other species of the genus by (1) leaves widely spreading, loosely reflexed or plane when dry, (2) leaf cells subisodiametric with confluent trigones, and (3) vitta 4–6 cell rows wide. Thysananthus retusus varies in the length of the lobule tooth, which may be 1–6 cells long.
