Oxynoemacheilus euphraticus (Bănărescu and

Nalbant, 1964) – Native

Noemacheilus insignis Bănărescu [P. M.] & Nalbant [T. T.] 1964: 175; Type locality: Euphrates (Firat Nehri) Basin, Malatya, eastern Anatolia, Turkey. Holotype: ZMH 1889. Paratypes: ZMH H1890 (36).

Common name: Pr: Loch-e forat, Sagmahi-e forat, En: Euphrates loach.

Diagnosis: Reduced incision in the upper lip, pelvic axillary lobe fully attached to the body, many minute dark brown spots on the back, the flank above the lateral midline and the caudal peduncle.

Meristic characters: D: 9–11, A: 5–6, P: 9–11, V: 6–8, TV: 41–42, LL: complete, SC: whole body, DP: present, PA: absent, SOG: present.

Distribution: Tigris-Euphrates. According to Freyhof and Özuluğ (2017) found in Karun drainage in Iran but we were not able to confirm its distribution in Iran; therefore, its presence in the country needs confirmation.

Taxonomy: Bǎnǎrescu et al. (1978) placed in Orthrias insignis (Heckel, 1847) as subspecies, Nalbant and Bianco (1998) recognize valid as Nemacheilus euphraticus, Nalbant (1998) placed in Orthrias, Prokofiev (2009) placed in Oxynoemacheilus insignis as subspecies, Freyhof et al. (2011) synonymised with Oxynoemacheilus argyrogramma and finally ( Freyhof 2016a) considered Oxynoemacheilus euphraticus (Bănărescu and Nalbant, 1964) as full and valid species.
