Taxonomy: A wide-ranging species with several available names usually placed in synonymy but possibly valid (e.g., A. caudimacula Heckel, 1849 ). According to Coad (2009), Alburnus zagrosensis Coad 2009 and A. mossulensis (now synonym of A. sellal ) have an overlap in all morphological features such as branched fins rays and vertebra, and only differ in the mean of these characters. Samples obtained from Gandoman Wetland (close to the type locality, Fig. 230) did not show any morphological and genetic difference to A. sellal (own unpublished data). Therefore, we consider A. zagrosensis as a synonym of A. sellal .

Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Least Concern. Widespread species and relatively abundant without any known threat to them, and thus we classified it as Least Concern.
