Aspius vorax Heckel View in CoL [J. J.] 1843: 1081 [91]; Type locality: Tigris River near Mosul, Iraq. Syntypes: NMW 16527 (1, dry), 76776 (1).

Common name: Pr: Shelej, En: Mesopotamian asp, Tigris asp.

Diagnosis: Meristic characters and distribution serve to identify this species.

Meristic characters: D: II–III 7–9 (8), A: III 10– 11, P: 16–17, V: 8, GR: 11–13, LL: 96–100, TV: 51–53.

Distribution: Tigris basin ( Fig. 257). Found in

Bahmanshir River, Hor al Azim and Shadegan Wetland. Taxonomy: Perea et al. (2010) placed in Leuciscus . Conservation: IUCN: Least Concern ( Freyhof

2014p).
