Schistura nielseni Nalbant View in CoL [T. T.] & Bianco [P. G.] 1998: 119; Type locality: Bazar River, Iran. Holotype: ZMC P 27109. Paratypes: ISBB uncat (1), ZMC P 2805 (1), 2806 (2), 27110 (1).
Common name: Pr: Loch-e Nilsen, Sagmahi-e Nilsen, En: Nielsen’s loach.
Diagnosis: A suborbital groove in males, 6–11 dark or pale brown or grey bars, blunt snout, absence of a dorsal adipose crest, an incomplete lateral line and flank and the back covered by scales.
Meristic characters: D: 7, A: 5, P: 9–10, V: 6, LL: incomplete, ending just anterior to the dorsal fin origin, SC: predorsal flank and back covered by scales, DP: reduced, PA: present, SOG: present.
Distribution: Persis basin ( Fig. 376). Found in Shah Bazan, Shapur and Dalaki rivers as well as Koohmareh Sorkhi stream.
Taxonomy.
Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Endangered B2ab(i,ii,iii). P. nielseni has a very restricted range (AOO <500 km 2, EOO <5,000 km 2), and occur in low number in small part of four river (Shah Bazan, Shapur, Dalaki and Koohmareh Sorkhi). In Persis basin, it is heavily impacted by domestic and agricultural pollution and water extraction, especially during the summer dry period where the streams dry up. Therefore, we classified it as Endangered.
