Alburnoides namaki Bogutskaya and Coad, 2009 View in CoL – Endemic ( Figs. 208, 209)

Alburnoides namaki Bogutskaya View in CoL [N. G.] & Coad [B. W.] 2009: 159; Type locality: Qanat at Taveh, 35°07'N, 49°02'E, Hamadan, Iran, elevation 1,640 m. Holotype: CMNFI 1979–0461. Paratypes: CMNFI 1979–0461A (188).

Alburnoides coadi Mousavi-Sabet [H.], Vatandoust [S.] & Doadrio [I.] 2015: 308; Type locality: Namroud River, Hableroud River drainage, Kavir basin, Tehran Province, Iran, 35°43'N, 52°39'E. Holotype: VMFC-ALK2-H. Paratypes: GUIC, VMFC.

Common name: Pr: Khayateh-e Namak, Lapek, En: Namak Spirlin.

Diagnosis: Lack of obvious dark spots or outline to the lateral line canal, eye small, orbit width about equal to the snout length but markedly smaller than the interorbital width, caudal fin with rounded lobes and fin shallowly forked, a deep head with a stout snout which is markedly rounded, a tip of the mouth cleft on the level below the lower margin of the eye, 2.5–4.2 pharyngeal, the most common vertebral formulae are 20 + 20, 20 + 19 and 19 + 20 ( Bogutskaya and Coad 2009).

Meristic characters: D: III 7–9 (8), A: III 10–14 (10–12), P: 12–15 (13–14), V: 6–7 (7), GR: 5–9 (7), LL: 43–52 (46–49), TV: 39–40.

Distribution: Namak and Kavir basins ( Fig. 210). Found in Qara chay, Mazlaghan chay, Saleh Abad, Kordan, Karaj, Kordan and Qomrud Rivers. Keivany et al. (2016) reported this species from Cheshme Ali spring (Kavir basin) but this is a clear miss-identification of A. damghani .

Taxonomy: Alburnoides coadi originally described from Namrud River, Hablerud River drainage, Kavir basin, Tehran Province, Iran. Jouladeh-Roudbar and Eagderi (2016) examined the validity of this species with COI mitochondrial marker and considered populations of A. Coadi (from type locality) distinguished from A. namaki with less than 0.5% genetic distance in the COI barcode region; therefore, they considered A. coadi as a junior synonym of A. namaki . In addition, we were not able to find any diagnostic morphological characteristics for distinguishing this species from A. namaki ; we therefore followed Jouladeh-Roudbar and Eagderi (2016) and considered A. coadi as synonym of A. namaki .

Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Least Concern. Due to the wide distribution of this species in Namak and Kavir basins and their relatively high number we consider it as Least Concern. However, the species occurs in arid basins, making it vulnerable to the droughts that Iran has experienced in the recent years.
