Luciobarbus xanthopterus Heckel View in CoL [J. J.] 1843: 1053 [63]; Type locality: Tigris River, Mosul, Iraq. Syntypes: NMW 54786 (1), 54841 (10), 91215 (1, dry).
Common name: Pr: Gatan, Charsol, En: Yellowfin barbel.
Diagnosis: Two pairs of barbels, last unbranched dorsal fin ray serrated and longer than head length, lateral line with 56–68 scales and yellow fins.
Meristic characters: D: IV 7–8, A: III 5, P: 14–18, V: 8, GR: 7–13, LL: 56–68, TV: 40–42.
Distribution: Tigris basin ( Fig. 157). Found in Karun Jarrahi and Karkheh rivers as well as in Hor Alazim and Shadegan Wetlands.
Taxonomy: Fricke et al. (2007) placed in Luciobarbus . The validity of this species needs to be confirmed by molecular markers.
Conservation: IUCN: Vulnerable A2cde ( Freyhof 2014u).
