Garra amirhosseini Esmaeili, Sayyadzadeh, Coad and Eagderi 2016 – Native ( Fig. 117)

Garra amirhosseini Esmaeili [H. R.], Sayyadzadeh [G.], Coad [B. W.] & Eagderi [S.] 2016: 87; Type locality: Sartang-e-Bijar hot spring at Mehran, Tigris River drainage, Ilam Province, Iran, 33°46'16.3"N, 45°56'17.2"E. Holotype: ZM-CBSU H1216. Paratypes: ZM-CBSU H1217 (6), ZM-CBSU J2791 (22).

Common name: Pr: Gel cheraghe Amirhossein, Gel cheraghe Abe garm, En: Hot spring garra, Amirhossein’s garra.

Diagnosis: Very similar to Garra rufa , but according to authors ( Esmaeili et al. 2016b) combination of the following characters can be distinguished this species from others: 7 branched dorsal fin rays, breast and belly with very small scales which are fully covered by a thick epidermal layer, and 9 + 8 branched caudal-fin rays.

Meristic characters: D: III 7, A: III 5, P: 12–13, V: 7–8, GR: 16–20, LL: 33–36, TV:?.

Distribution: Tigris basin ( Fig. 118). Found in Sartang-e Bijar River at Mehran town. Esmaeili et al. (2017) consider G. amirhosseini as Iranian endemic but its populations are found in the Sartang River in both Iran and Iraq, so we cannot consider this species as endemic.

Taxonomy.

Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Least Concern. This species has a relatively large distribution range in Iran and Iraq; it occurs in high population numbers and has no known widespread threat affecting it. Therefore, we classified it as Least Concern.
