Tylognathus elegans Günther [A.] 1868: 64; Type locality: Mesopotamia?, Syntypes: (numerous) BMNH 1850.10.21.31–35 (5), 1850.10.21.36 (1, c&s).

Common name: Pr: Gel cheragh-e ziba, En: Elegant garra.

Diagnosis: Distinguished from the closely related species of the Garra from Iran by the possession of a shallow mental disc completely fused with the chin (vs. mental disc fully developed and structured), no tubercles on the head (vs. tubercles present) and a naked breast and belly (vs. belly covered by scales, breast naked or covered by scales).

Meristic characters: D: III 7, A: III 5, P: 12–13, V: 7–8, GR: 17–23, LL: 32–37, TV:?.

Distribution: Tigris basin ( Fig. 119). According to Coad (2015) and Freyhof (2016b) found in lower past of Tigris, Little Zab and Sirvan Rivers.

Taxonomy: Coad (1981) placed in Hemigarra, Coad (1991) in Hemigrammo capoeta and Behrens-Chapuis et al. (2015) transferred to Garra .

Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Data Deficient. Not enough information about the distribution or population sizes of this species is available. Therefore, we classified it as Data Deficient.
