Type Locality: Brazil, Bahia State, caatingas along the Riacho da Ressaca, between the farms Tamboril and Ilha (as clarified by Avila-Pires, 1965).
Vernacular Names: Red-nosed Wiedomys.
Distribution: SE Brazil, from Ceará to Rio Grande do Sul.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Locality records clarified by Pine (1980 b).
