PROTENOR CRAMER, 1775 View in CoL

( FIG. 19 View Figures 15–20 )

Pap[ilio] Eq[ues] Troj[anus] protenor Cramer, 1775: 77 , 154, pl.49, figs A, B [original plate 88, figs C, C]. China

Papilio Eques View in CoL Trojanus protenor, Stoll, 1782b: 2 [No. 19].

Material examined. Syntype ♀, van Lennep label ‘[no number – appears to have been trimmed off] PRO- TENOR. Cr. I. 49. A. B.’ ( BMNH (E)#665002) is a fair match for original plate 88, figs C, C, although paler than shown; there are apparent discrepancies in the hindwing pattern, but these are largely due to subsequent repairs to the specimen; it has also been repinned .

Current status. Valid species in Papilio (Menelaides) ( Häuser et al., 2003) .
