HELENA LINNAEUS OF CRAMER, 1777

Pap[ilio] Eq[ues] Troj[anus] helena, Cramer, 1777: 66 , 149, pl.140, figs A, B [original plate 106, A, A]. ‘Isle d’Amboine’ [= Indonesia, Ambon]. Cramer states that there was also a male in the collection of Baron Rengers ‘qui est presque d’un tiers plus petit que la Femelle que nous reprèsentons ici’ [which is nearly a third smaller than the female which we represent here]). The figure actually represents a male.

Papilio Eques View in CoL Trojanus helena, Stoll, 1782b: 2 [No. 2].

Material examined. 1 ♂, with van Lennep label ‘ No. 2. HELENA Cr. II. 140. A. B.’ and Felder label ‘ Coll. Lenep Orig’ ( BMNH (E)#665103) is a good match for original plate 106, figs A, A; it has the remains of an earlier ‘pin’ (a thorn), there are minor repairs to the wings and some spots of paint .

Identity. Troides (Troides) o. oblongomaculatus (Goeze, 1779).
